Stapleton, James H., 80, passed peacefully following a sudden illness on Sunday, May 10th surrounded by his loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Jane (Peck) Stapleton. He was born in Providence, RI, the son of the late Raymond V. Stapleton Sr. and M. Frances (Gallogly) Stapleton.
Over the last 40 years, he resided in Cranston, RI. He was a graduate of Providence College and also attended Mortuary School in Boston, MA. From 1985 to the present time, he was the owner and director of the Stapleton Family Funeral Home. He was an avid sports enthusiast, especially for the Boston Red Sox. He adored playing cards with friends on Saturday nights and was happiest spending time with family..
In addition to his beloved wife of 34 years, he leaves behind 3 stepchildren: Christine J. (McKearney) Marcotte of Rehoboth, MA; Gary S. McKearney Jr. of Lubbock, TX; and Ryan J. McKearney of Dighton, MA. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Brittney, Gianna, and Jayde D’Agostino; Noelle, Patrick, Emma, and Miranda McKearney; Tristan Marcotte; Sarah Blaise; and Jared DuBois, as well as three great-grandchildren.He also leaves behind his nephew, Raymond K. Stapleton; nieces, Kendra J. Stapleton and Wendy D. (Vest) Hoag; and many cousins.
His life will be celebrated with calling hours on Friday, May 15, from 4–7 p.m. in the Butterfield Chapel, 500 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. George Maronite Catholic Church, 1493 Cranston St., Cranston, RI. Burial will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery
