Obituaries

Richard A. Smith, 54, of Eighth Street, Providence passed away on November 19, 2022 in Kent County Hospital, Warwick. Born in Providence on January 11, 1968, He was the son of the late Elizabeth A. (Flippens) Smith and Jethro Moore.

Richard was a graduate of Hope High School and he attended RI Community College..

Richard was a United States Army Veteran and served our Nation in sickness and in health. He was self-employed and had many skills including his study to become a computer programmer.

To know Richard was to love Richard. He was kind, thoughtful and a sensitive soul. Richard was an outstanding athlete and an exceptional football player. He played with (CLCF) Cranston League for Cranston Future and other local teams. Richard was also a talented Artist and gifted in acting, singing and poetry.

Richard is survived by five brothers, Wayne F. Smith and his wife Debra, Maurice D. Smith and his wife Wanda, Sidney L. Smith, Charles A. Smith and his wife Louisa, Timothy J. Smith, one sister, Mary F. Gripper, many extended family members including nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who loved him. Richard was the brother of the late Alethea L. Wells, Elizabeth “Betty” Smith, Pamela R. Smith and Debra A. Smith.

His Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 28th in the Stapleton Family Funeral Home, 684 Park Avenue, Cranston from 12 - 2pm.
