Shaw, Betty L. 90, of North Kingstown, passed away peacefully on October 14, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side who cared dearly for her for many years. Betty was born March 1, 1931 in Providence. She was the eldest daughter of Gordon and Myra Bowen.

Betty is preceded in death by her father and mother, Gordon Bowen and Myra Hilton-Holton Bowen, brother Robert Bowen, sister Diane Fisher as well as her granddaughter Dawn Doster. She was the wife of the late John E. Shaw and George M. Silva, whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy-Lee Waterman and her husband Charles with whom she lived in North Kingstown, her son Stephen Silva and wife Nina of Cranston, her brother Howard A. Bowen of South Carolina, as well as multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her nieces, nephews and friends.

Betty was a hard worker her whole life, working three jobs to care for her children. In her younger years, she was a cocktail waitress. She also worked at Shepherds as a shoe sales-women. She later worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance for nearly 30 years in an accounts payable position, before she retired.

Betty was a devoted wife. She lived a wonderful and full life. Betty enjoyed reading, swimming, bowling, boating and playing cards with her friends and family. She loved cooking, and cleaning. Betty was meticulous about cleaning. Everything had its place.

Her life was at its best when she was boating. Betty was the happiest while living in her home in Oak Bluff’s, on Martha’s Vineyard which was her favorite place to be.

Her life will be celebrated with calling hour at the Stapleton Family Funeral Home, 684 Park Avenue, Cranston,, Tuesday, October 19th from 8:45am to 10:00am. A service will start at 10:00am. Burial will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
