Maria Rosa Dias 6/22/2021



DIAS, MARIA (ROSA), 92, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, surrounded by her loving family, who faithfully cared for her at home in the last years of her life. Born in Portugal, Maria was the daughter of the late Manuel and Nazare (Rosa) Santo and adoptive parents, Filipe and Maria (Rosa) Gomes. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Antonio Dias, son Richard Dias, great-grandson Ethan Ferreira, and son-in-law Thomas Iacobucci, Jr.

Maria lived for her family, and her face would light up with joy, especially when her sweet great-grandchildren walked in the door.

Maria worked for Leviton Manufacturing for 40 years, retiring in 2000. She was President of The Cranston Portuguese Club Ladies Auxiliary and organized many events for the Portuguese-American community. Maria co-founded Rancho Folclorico of Cranston as a way to connect young people to their Portuguese roots. She was also a Benfica fan and was a member of the Benfica soccer club. Maria was an active member of St. Matthew’s Church for 58 years, participating in and organizing many fundraising events. She was devoted to Our Lady of Fatima throughout her life and founded the first Our Lady of Fatima feast and parade in Cranston. Maria was loved by many for her boundless energy and outgoing personality and will be missed by all.

She leaves two daughters, Arlette (Dias) Dumais of Warwick, and Elizabeth Dias-Iacobucci of Cranston; four grandchildren, Brendon and Carissa Iacobucci, Marc Ferreira and his wife Cynthia, Rick Ferreira and his wife Nicole; and three great-grandchildren, Fatima, Antonio, Max, and James Benjamin Ferreira, and four brothers and sisters, Jose Rosa of Warwick, Manuel Rosa and his wife Leonor of Cranston, Vitoria Daniel, and Diamantina Abreu of Portugal. She was beloved by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, including the amazing people (angels) at HopeHealth.

Maria’s life will be celebrated with visiting hours Tuesday, June 29, 2021, 5:00-7:00 PM at Stapleton Family Funeral Home, 684 Park Avenue, Cranston. Funeral services are Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Matthew Church, Cranston, at 11:00am. Her burial will be held in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. Immediately following will be a celebration of life reception at the Riviera Restaurant 580 N. Broadway, East Providence, RI.
