Yen Kew Tow | December 9, 1933 – March 6, 2024
One of four children, Yen was the beloved son of Tow Huai Jun and Chan Woon Tai. He grew up in a village near Taishan, China, and at the age of 16, he moved to Hong Kong where he started working to save money for his journey to the U.S.
His dream to build a better life led Yen to immigrate to the U.S. at the age of 18. Yen worked tirelessly through different roles, improving his culinary and business skills. Yen traveled back to China to visit family and friends, where he was introduced to his future wife, Lai Fong.
Yen went on to purchase Luke’s Restaurant, located in Downtown Providence. Luke’s was a favorite among locals and played a vital role in the family as his children began their working life there.
Yen also gave back to the community by serving as the President of the On Leong Chinese Association. Yen has served as a friend to many, providing guidance and assistance.
Yen’s memory will live on in his four children; Warren, Garry, Rosie, and Terry. He also leaves behind his two daughters-in-law, Lisa and Elizabeth; four grandchildren, Jamie, Alex, Harper, and Micayla; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rock the 21,Rock The 21.org a non-profit organization advocating for people with Down syndrome. Founded by his family, this organization is dear to Yen’s heart as one of his granddaughters is a person with DS.
His life will be celebrated at Stapleton Funeral Home 684 Park Ave Cranston, RI on Saturday March 16, 2024. Calling Hours: 9 to 11AM followed with burial at Pawtuxet Memorial Park Warwick, RI approximately 11:30AM. Yen’s Celebration of Life with family and friends will be at Lemongrass Restaurant at 1PM (1138 Post Rd Warwick, RI).
