Dias, Richard M. 64, of Cranston, passed unexpectedly with his loving family by his side on December 21, 2018 at RI Hospital. Born in Santarem, Portugal, he came to the United States at an early age with his family. He was the son of Maria (Rosa) Dias of Cranston and the late Antonio Dias.

Besides his mother he leaves 2 sisters; Arlette Dumais of Warwick and Elizabeth Dias-Iacobucci of Cranston and is predeceased by the late Thomas A. Iacobucci, Jr (Brother in law) , He also leaves nieces and nephews, Richard (Nicole), Marc (Cynthia) Ferreira, Brendon, Carissa, Timothy and Emily Iacobucci. Fatima, Antonio, Max and James Ferreira. He was the uncle of the late Ethan Ferreira.

Rick is a graduate of Cranston High School East class of 1972 where he was a trumpet player for the Thunderbolts marching band. He attended CCRI before becoming a supervisor at Elmwood Sensors in Cranston. While working full time, Rick finished his higher education at the University of Rhode Island where he received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Computer Engineering. His education in computers lead him to create his own software company, Software Solutions with Warwick Musical Theater being his first client. Working with "The Tent" granted him opportunities to meet celebrities such as Diana Ross, Jerry Seinfeld and his favorite band Chicago, to name a few.

Rick's love of music guided him to form the band Impactos with cousins and friends where he played both keyboard (which he taught himself) and the trumpet. The band became one of his biggest passions for 10 years as they performed throughout the United States and recorded an album. The years spent playing in the band was a time in his life in which he would speak fondly as he remembered the lifelong relationships that were formed, the numerous places he traveled and the experiences he shared with so many.

Rick was a long standing member of the Cranston Portuguese Club and the CPC Rod & Gun Club. Rick continued to own and operate Software Solutions until retiring in 2008. He also developed and taught MCSE classes (Microsoft Systems Engineer) at Bryant University, Smithfield, RI. Most of all, Rick loved his family and he will be greatly missed.
